  about the answering machine family

The Answering Machine Family is an eclectic folk-Americana group that writes and records music for answering machines. Producing greetings of 25-40 seconds each, they take the listener/caller on a whirlwind tour of styles ranging from folk to blues to grotesquely overproduced pop. Their whimsical lyrics evoke minimalist parables, exploring connections between "phones" and "tones" and being "alone" and "on your own." Their compact symphonies invite comparisons to wayward sonic pioneers such as Captain Beefheart.

Founded by singer/songwriter Zeke after he returned, "hollow and bereft," from a tour of dance halls in the Yukon, the band also includes chanteuse Sam, spiritual adviser Rishi, and noisemaker/anarchist Wayne. Their debut CD, Supersonic Monophonic Love Machine, hits the lines soon.
